Eagle Project
For my Eagle project, I constructed a handicap access ramp at the Holmes Memorial Hall for the North Attleboro Historic Commission. This access ramp served an essential step in the commission’s goal to reopen the hall for public meetings. The Holmes Memorial Hall was a function hall constructed in the 1850s in association with the neighboring Holmes Schoolhouse – which has been fully restored in recent years. The hall has an illustrious history including a brief stint in serving as town hall.
The Historic Commission had already acquired approved plans for the ramp prior to my involvement in the project. I constructed the ramp in three phases, completed over the course of approximately 7 months. The first phase was the clearing of the land and digging 4 foot deep holes for cement footers. The next phase was the pouring of cement footers and physical construction of the wooden superstructure of the ramp. The third phase was the staining and painting of the ramp. I had to both raise funds for this project and source materials. I then led a team of over 20 workers on multiple days in order to physically construct the ramp. I gained vast amounts of experience with large-scale manufacturing and leading a large team on a long-term project. I also had to establish and stick to a timeline, interface with the relevant authorities, and source and purchase materials on time to keep the project on schedule.
